“Pop and Shine” Campbell Rowe Ceramics 2 Class of 2025 I have been working with clay since the end of twenty-nineteen. When I was given the opportunity of creating any five pieces of work I thought about how plain and simple my room was at home, so I decided to make colorful pieces to put on my dresser to add some pop and color. I created five different sizes of the bowl and cylinder-shaped holders for my jewelry and makeup brushes, because if you know every girl needs their jewelry and makeup and it needs to be organized! I started with practicing throwing cylinder shapes and then started to create my pieces how I liked. After I created pieces I loved I used the surface design technique and carved rounded lines into all of my pieces around the outside. Once they were bisque fired I started working with the color of glazes of my choice. I first poured the bright color of glaze in the center and twisted it around until the center was fully covered. Then I painted the top rims of the pieces with the same bright color. Then I dipped the outside in white glaze. Next, I took the same bright color of glaze I had used before in the center and took a sponge to the outside of the pots. I sponged the outside on top of the white glaze until I was satisfied with the outcome of the color and pattern. I hope you feel inspired after looking at the pieces I have created and creating pieces for your own self that can brighten a room or spot you like to spend time at.
